Registered Dietitians and other health professionals frequently take one or two courses for:
  • Didactic work for board certification exams
  • Professional Development Portfolio (1 graduate credit = 15 CEU)
  • Personal edification

  • Some courses offered as web-enhanced or at Edwards Campus in the evening
  • A non-degree seeking student can become degree-seeking and count 6 credits toward the MS degree.

Admission Requirements:
  • Previous Education and Training
  • Registered Dietitian OR
  • Bachelor’s degree with Didactic Program in Dietetics or with courses in:
      – Biochemistry
      – Physiology
      – Nutrition
  • Cumulative GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Application Process:

1. The form used to apply as a non-degree student is different for undergraduate and graduate courses:

2. Submit application
- By mail to Dept. Dietetics & Nutrition with $60 check for application processing fee
(made payable to University of Kansas Medical Center)

3. Transcripts - Request one official transcript from each undergraduate and graduate school be sent directly to the Dept. Dietetics & Nutrition

Costs

The costs for Non-Degree Master's Coursework are the same as the Master's Degree Program.


Visitor Status:

Visitor status is for a non-degree seeking graduate student who does not wish to receive graduate credit or a grade for a course. Visitor status will be granted on a space available basis. The “Visitor” can apply for Continuing Education Units from a professional organization for a course attended as a Visitor. The Visitor pays tuition and library fees. For Visitors who are KS residents and over 60 y of age, tuition is waived.

For the application process, the application must be submitted as outlined above but transcripts are not required.

A Visiting Student Permission Permit must be signed by the instructor and student and submitted with the application for admission. The Visiting Student Permission Permit can be obtained from the department Administrative Assistant (913-588-5355 or sjones@kumc.edu).

Deadlines:

No deadlines exist; however, the application process will take about four weeks.

Notification:

The Graduate Office will send a letter to the student and the department when the student’s application is accepted. Then, the D&N Administrative Assistant will send an email to the accepted student giving them a userid and password for accessing the KUMC online Enroll and Pay system and instructions for using the system.
